More and more companies are providing paternity leave to allow for the ever- changing parental roles in modern households. Although Mum Mum’s reports a great deal about mothers, fathers are
equally as important to the well being of a child and bonding with both parents provides long lasting benefits. A recent article explains that dads, however, are not spending as much time with their children as they should be.
Physician and parenting author Dr. Bruce Robinson explains that dads need to set up “dad dates″ with their children. The parenting expert states that fathers are leaving too much up to mothers and that research indicates that kids with uninvolved dads are twice as likely to abuse drugs later in life.
Dr. Robinson is the author of several parenting books, including Fathers in the Fast Lane, which were inspired by his work with dying patients who regretted not spending enough time with their children. He urged fathers to set up “dates″ with one child at a time at different venues while making an effort to talk.
In addition, the doctor says too few fathers interact with schools and avoid going to information nights on various topics which keeps them out of the loop about what is going on in their child’s day to day lives. Dr. Robinson also explains that it is crucial fathers let their children know how much they love them and especially as those children get older to assure them they will always be there for them.
